Rika Ogasawara a jewelry designer since 1999, born in Kumamoto , south Japan
She studied law at Kumamoto University. After her degree she decided that her life would be dedicated to enhance the beauty of a refined clientele
In 1998 she learned her trade in France, where she took courses in the creation of jewelry and embroidery as well as gold and silver lace trimming with Lesage in Paris. She took five certificates.
While she was in Paris she had the good fortune to meet Alain Ducros, an antiques dealer who was a connoisseur of Japanese art of the Edo period and wrote several books on netsuke and sagemono.
She took an interest in his work, and he supported her in hers.
She would leave in the early morning to search out the beautiful but abandoned objects that one can sometimes uncover in flea markets.
Based on what she found, she allowed her own spirit free realm, transforming old articles from their past uses, to give them new life and a beauty that belongs to the world of today.
She endeavors through her creative spirit to imbue her works with a sense of life and a quality that will bring out the personality and individualism of the wearer, especially with wedding accessories.
The materials she uses are often French since France is the cradle of the foremost designers and jewelers, experts in bringing out the beauty of women.
She also draws upon the art of the Edo period in Japan that gave rise to the beauty and sensitivity which inspired the Western art nouveau.
Now she lives in Fukuoka but as well in Paris where she works as well.
